His jazz pieces, which run the gamut from ‘head’ arrangements to extended compositions, have been performed, and recorded by his premier performing ensembles: The Mark Lomax Quartet, The Mark Lomax Trio, The Lomax-Bayard Trio, and his 30 piece chamber group The Afro-chamber Ensemble. Lomax has produced eight recordings as a leader/producer/arranger. His latest CD “The State of Black America” has been given rave reviews!
Born in Harrisburg, PA, Edwin Bayard started a musical journey that has placed him in the lineage of the great tenorsax players: Coleman Hawkins, John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins, and Eddie Harris to name a few. Bayard brings pure fire to the bandstand with every performance with his virtuosic style; and has learned to be both explosive and sensitive, as the demands of his expression requires.
The very gifted and exciting reedman began his professional career at the age of sixteen. He studied music performance at the Berklee School of Music and The Ohio State University School of Music
The third member of this trio is Dean Hulett, the very gifted Bassist from Cleveland, Ohio.
Dean has recently been on a world tour that has included stops in the Caribbean and Europe!
William Menefield, based in Austin Texas, is one of the country’s leading young pianists. Having recorded or played with a myriad of stellar jazz greats, William displays an intuitive sensitivity that belies his years. He is a true Maestro on the piano! He recently earned his PhD in music composition from The University of Texas!!
William has performed with some of the very best jazz musicians in the world. He has performed with Clark Terry, David “Fathead” Newman, Gary Bartz, and Azar Lawrence, among many, many others. He has several recordings to his credit including “Big Will Leaps In” and “Will’s Revenge”.
